Known as the Caribbean gemstone, larimar is a gorgeous ocean-blue coloured stone that is uncovered in the Caribbean, much more particularly, the Dominican Republic. Some contact it the “Atlantis stone” or the “dolphin stone”.

Discovered in 1916 by Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren in the Dominican Republic, it is a unusual and important beauty.

To date, the only recognised major deposits of larimar are identified in the Dominican Republic where it was treasured by the area’s initially inhabitants, the Taino Indians.

The only acknowledged significant larimar mine is in this distant, mountainous locale in the Dominican province of Barahonas. This excellent gemstone is mined from narrow crevices applying primitive hand tools.
