NEW YORK : Gap is currently being sued for refusing to shell out lease for suppliers quickly closed all through the coronavirus pandemic.

Mall operator Simon Home Group claimed in a lawsuit filed this week that the clothing retailer owes a few months of lease, totaling $sixty five.nine million. Gap Inc. has far more than 390 suppliers at Indianapolis-based Simon’s malls, which includes its namesake manufacturer, Outdated Navy and Banana Republic.

Gap and other big retailers, which includes sneaker seller Foot Locker, have claimed they would not shell out lease for suppliers that were forced to near thanks to the pandemic. In April, Gap warned that it could be sued by its landlords and that a dispute could be costly and have “an uncertain final result.”

San Francisco-based Gap did not react to a ask for for comment Thursday.
