An East Texas deputy constable was shot and killed Wednesday at a Houston browsing mall, officers mentioned.

The shooting took place shortly in advance of 4 p.m. Wednesday in the PlazAmericas shopping mall in southeastern Houston. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner explained in a news convention Wednesday night time that San Jacinto County Precinct 1 Deputy Constable Neil Adams was performing an more position at the shopping mall when he obtained into a confrontation with the alleged shooter.

Through the confrontation, the suspect got a maintain of the deputy’s weapon and fatally shot him, Finner reported, according to KHOU-11.

The suspect, a 35-year-old male, fled to the meals court in the shopping mall. When he encountered two Houston police officers, he came at them with a sharp item, potentially a knife, Finner reported. The officers shot the suspect, and he later died, in accordance to police.

Adams went through the police academy in 2012 and labored as the county’s environmental officer, San Jacinto County Constable Roy Rogers stated. The deputy’s wife, Dee Dee Adams, spoke briefly at Wednesday night’s information meeting.

“My spouse constantly mentioned that you can either be a sheep or a sheep puppy,” she said. “And I want everybody to pray for all the sheep pet dogs out there that are guarding every person.”
