Retail and leisure developments 'mothballed'

British Land declared last 7 days that the planned 333,000 sq ft leisure extension to its Sheffield purchasing centre Meadowhall – which was to include an open-air dining terrace, restaurants, cinema, gym and cafe court, intially earmarked for completion in early 2021 – is “unlikely to progress” in the current weather. 

The landlord has now verified it will start a community consultation on its revised programs for the centre this summer months, ahead of submitting a new planning software.

It revealed it had penned down the value of its retail portfolio by to £3.8bn ”as a consequence of ongoing structural changes” and the outcomes of Covid-19.
