Mariupol has turn out to be a “medieval ghetto” with medics forced to amputate limbs to prevent new epidemics erupting, officers in the devastated southern port town have warned.

The country’s human rights chief Lyudmyla Denisova appealed to the UN and Crimson Cross to support evacuate wounded fighters trapped in the city’s Azovstal steel performs. The city’s mayor Vadym Boichenko, who has fled, said “the [Russian] occupiers have turned Mariupol into a medieval ghetto,” while a single of his aides said Azovstal was ablaze yet again soon after fresh bombing, warning: “If there is hell on earth, it is there.”

“Without medication and clinical treatment, the restoration of the drinking water provide and good sewerage in the city, epidemics will erupt.
